Very rare two-headed snake discovered in the wild: ‘Such a strange sight’

an extremely rare deformed snake Two heads have been found in the forest.

Animals that are born with two or more heads have a condition called polycephaly, which is more common in reptiles than in mammals. One possible cause of this condition is if the fetus does not completely complete a division. Alternatively, two separate embryos may fuse together incompletely, forming an Orthrus-like creature.

a 2013 paper in Journal of Comparative Distortion It was found that out of a sample of 4,087 pit viper hatchlings, only three had two heads with hatchlings.

Nick Evans, A South Africa-based snake saverwas asked to collect a two-headed southern brown egg-eater—a harmless species—from a man who had come across a snake in his garden.

The man, who lives in Ndvedwe, a town north of Durban, didn’t want anyone to harm the strange creature, so he put it in a bottle and asked Evans to move it to a safe place.

There are cases of two-headed snakes that have bred in captivity and occasionally in the wild, but this is very rare.

“It was such a strange sight to see this deformed snake,” Evans said. Facebook Post. “its a teenageraround [a foot] in length. It was quite interesting to see how it progresses. Sometimes the heads try to move in opposite directions from each other, sometimes, it makes one head rest on the other. It seemed like the most efficient way forward.”

Animals with polycephaly often do not live very long, depending on the extent to which the two heads are divided. Two heads with distinct stomachs are more likely to fight and starve at prey than a snake having just one stomach. However, a single organ functioning in two bodies would put the animal under undue stress, which could shorten its lifespan.

According to Evans, the unique snake is now safe under professional care. He was surprised that he even lived to the point where he found her.

“There’s no point in releasing it. As far as I know, they generally don’t live long. It won’t last long in the wild. It can barely walk, and when so If it does, it does incredibly slowly easy selection For a hunter.”

Commenters on the Facebook post were happy to hear that the snake has been rescued.

“Poor. So grateful it’s safe,” said one comment.
