UTSA's Tariq Woolen expected to start for Seattle Seahawks – mySA

Tariq Woolen #39 of the Seattle Seahawks tackles Malik Davis #34 of the Dallas Cowboys in an NFL preseason football game at AT&T Stadium on August 26, 2022 in Arlington, Texas.
The former University of Texas at San Antonio standout Tariq Woolen will likely start for the Seattle Seahawks in his rookie year, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. The rookie fifth-round pick has been listed as a starter for the right cornerback position on the Seahawks’ depth chart
Condotta reported how Woolen has been a starter most of training camp as veteran cornerbacks are dealing with injuries. He added that Woolen had some rocky moments in the preseason opener at Pittsburgh, but has picked it up since then.
Woolen has impressed many in his journey to the NFL. He ran one of the fastest 40-yard dash times in NFL Combine history, running an official 4.26 on his second attempt. Woolen’s time tied for the fourth-fastest 40-yard dash by any player at a combine since 2003. The UTSA standout accomplished the goal as one of the biggest cornerbacks in any draft at 6-foot-4⅛ and 205 pounds.

For the Roadrunners, Woolen started nine games at cornerback last season. The Fort Worth native registered 25 total tackles, 17 solo stops, 2.5 tackles for loss, five pass breakups, one interception, and a quarterback hurry.
The Seattle Seahawks selected Woolen with the No. 153 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Condotta reported that the Seahawks might not have picked Woolen if they didn’t have the additional selections from the Denver Broncos after the team traded quarterback Russell Wilson.
According to a report from Sports Illustrated on September 4, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll feels confident that Woolen is ready to play against the Broncos on Monday Night Football.
While anything can happen and change in football, it’s looking like Woolen could make his in-season debut soon.
The Seahawks and Broncos kickoff at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, September 12. The game can be watched live on ESPN.
