Trump-backed Tim Mitchell wins Wisconsin GOP gubernatorial primary

Former President Donald Trump scored another proxy victory over former Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday, as the choice of the former commander-in-chief won Wisconsin’s Republican gubernatorial primary.

Trump threw his support behind Tim Mitchells, a construction magnate who invested $12 million in his own campaign, while Pence backed former lieutenant governor Rebecca Clayfish, who served under ex-GOP Gov. Was.

By the time the Associated Press called the race at 10:35 p.m. local time, Michels had a 47% to 43% lead over Clayfish.

Both governors backed Trump’s claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen due to voter fraud, but Clayfish has said the results were “not constitutional,” while Mitchell said “everything is on the table.” “

President Biden defeated Trump in Wisconsin by a little over 20,000 votes two years ago, but the former president insisted the results should be annulled.

Michelle, who appeared with Trump at a rally in Waukesha last week, has said he wants to get rid of the state’s election commission – a position also supported by Clayfish.

“I’m going to get electoral integrity back in Wisconsin. We’re going to Shut Down ‘Juckerbucks’ Out-of-state billionaires are coming to our state and controlling our election process. It won’t happen anymore,” Michelle said.

In a campaign appearance on Monday, Clayfish downplayed his opponent’s support of Trump.

“To me, the only supports that matter, after all, are those who counted last night from the people of Wisconsin,” she said.

Mitchell and Klefisk have been neck and neck in recent polls, with incumbent Democratic Gov. Tony Evers the winner in November. I

Trump and Pence also backed opposing GOP gubernatorial candidates in Arizona — where Trump won the Kari Lake primary — and Georgia, where Pence’s current government picks. Brian Kemp took a jibe at Trump-backed former Sen. David Perdue.
