Thursday Round-Up: Third Time In Seattle Predicted To Be The Charm For Seahawks Justin Coleman – Writer
Good afternoon, 12s. Here’s a look at what’s out there today – Thursday, August 18 – about your Seattle Seahawks.
In March, the Seattle Seahawks signed cornerback Justin Coleman to a one-year deal. This makes Coleman’s third stint with the team, and according to Pro Football Focus, it may be his best.
In 2015, the Seattle Seahawks signed Coleman to the practice squad, before he was signed to the New England Patriots active roster. After being a part of the Super Bowl LI Champion squad, Seattle acquired Coleman from New England for the rights to the No. 205 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
In 32 games with the Seahawks between 2017-18, Coleman played all 32 games and recorded 98 tackles, 19 pass deflections, three interceptions and scored two defensive touchdowns. Coleman spent time with the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins over the last two seasons before returning to Seattle in free agency.
The PFF team ranked the ‘bounce-back’ player on every NFL roster for the 2022 season, selecting Coleman for Seattle.
The PFF team went into detail about what went wrong once Coleman left Seattle, and why returning to Seattle was a perfect fit. Brady Henderson of ESPN’s NFL Nation chimes in on how Coleman aides the Seahawks’ young secondary.
Outlook for 2022: Coleman will have to make the team and earn a role on Seattle’s defense before we can truly consider him a bounce-back candidate. Those aren’t givens, considering he is competing with Marquise Blair for the nickelback job and playing on a minimum-salary deal with a little over $150,000 guaranteed. Coleman’s return to the place where he excelled in 2017 and 2018 could bring a level of comfort and confidence, though Seattle’s defense has changed quite a bit since then. — Brady Henderson
