In an expected move, the Seahawks placed running back Rashaad Penny on injured reserve Friday.
Penny suffered a season-ending ankle injury and fibula fracture in last weekend’s game at New Orleans, an injury that required surgery, which took place earlier in the week.
Penny, who rushed for 346 yards and two scores on 57 carries prior to the injury, is expected to make a full recovery, but not in time to return this season, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said.

“It’s really a heartbreaker for a kid who has really bounced back into the limelight of our program,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday. “He’s been through such a long haul, it’s really just a heartbreaking loss for him. He’s been doing great and everybody can see it, and we’ve been so excited for him. He’s going to miss the rest of this year. He’ll come back, he’ll be able to play again and all of that. It’s a really clear surgery process and all of that, but it just does take a long time.”
The move leaves an open spot on Seattle’s 53-man roster, one that could be filled with a roster move on Saturday.
