Liverpool vs Man Utd (4-0) April 19, 2022 Match Preview & Stats

One of the most anticipated matches on the Premier League calendar takes place at Anfield as Liverpool host Manchester United on Tuesday evening.

The Reds are second in the Premier League in this one but could leapfrog Manchester City to the top spot if they beat Man Utd, with Pep Guardiola’s side not playing until Wednesday.

Man Utd, meanwhile, are fresh off a 3-2 win at home to Norwich in which Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick. It was an important victory in their pursuit of Champions League football as they are now three points away from the top four.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has the luxury of a fully fit team to opt for, as Diogo Jota was the only injury suspected in the FA Cup semi-final win over Man City. However, the Portuguese fell off the bench.

Alisson will start in goal behind the last four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson. Ibrahima Konate impressed against City and even reached the scoresheet again, but Matip is expected to be reinstated in the starting XI.

Jordan Henderson was also on the bench on Sunday, so he’ll likely be accompanied by Fabinho and Thiago, with Nabi Keita out.

Klopp now has plenty of options in the last third, but Roberto Firmino could be allowed to make up for it along with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

As for United, they have several injury issues to deal with. Currently, Luke Shaw, Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay and Fred are all missing due to various problems.

One positive is that Rafael Varane may be fit to play, although he will be judged closer to kick-off.

David de Gea will continue in goal, with Diogo Dalot on the right, Varane and Harry Maguire in the center of defense and Alex Telles on the left.

Paul Pogba was ridiculed by United fans after he left the pitch against Norwich, and would probably have been dropped if Ralph Rangnick had other options.

But, he will likely start in midfield three.

Jesse Lingard could get on the bench for it, with Nemanja Matic coming on to provide a bit more steel, also Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga should retain their places through the weekend.
