Kurt Russell was on the fast track to majors in the early 70s despite being a successful child actor. Russell (then) was an All-Star minor leaguer in the California Angels farm system when an injury derailed his career. He has to make compromises to be a movie star. However, Russell could have been both – kinda. Bull Durham director Ron Shelton recently wrote an article for The Ringer in which he talks about recruiting Russell as his first choice for the role of Crash Davis (who would eventually go to Kevin Costner).
