Hemet Police opened fire on the suspect during the chase; unclear if anyone was killed

At least one Hemet police officer opened fire during the chase on Saturday morning, although it is not clear whether the man was shot.

According to the Hammett Police Department, the chase began just before 5 a.m., when an officer pulled over a black BMW sedan at the 1700 block of West Florida Avenue.

When the officer tried to talk to the driver, the BMW started a chase, police said in a news release.

During the chase, the BMW pulled into a cul-de-sac in the 800 block of Koramdev Court, where at least one officer fired his gun.

Police did not say whether the suspect was killed or how many shots were fired, but the driver “continued to run,” police said.

Eventually, in the 600 block of Brinton Street in San Jacinto, the BMW driver lost control and the driver was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Katie Rabago.
951-765-2426 or Riverside County Sheriff’s Investigator Dan Moody at 951-955-2777.
