Five injured after chase ends in violent accident in Los Felizo

A police chase with a stolen car ended in a violent wreck in Los Feliz early Monday, injuring five people.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Franklin and West Avenue at approximately 1:15 a.m. while Los Angeles police were chasing a stolen Mercedes.

The Mercedes collided with two other vehicles at the intersection, one of which was an LA Department of Water and Power public utility truck, which was scattering debris at the intersection.

In total, five people were injured. The driver of the truck, a LADWP employee, was trapped and had to be cut by LA fire department staff. Police said he suffered only minor injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger have also been hospitalised. The passenger has suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes initially tried to flee the scene, but was chased by officers and arrested.

The driver and a passenger in the third car with minor injuries have been admitted to the hospital.

There were no LAPD officer casualties. A loaded gun was found in the Mercedes. The circumstances that led to the chase were still unknown.

The intersection remained closed till 6 am
