The deal includes $42 million in guaranteed money and makes it the Charger until 2026.
James’ mega-extension will take effect in 2023 as he plays in 2022 under a fifth-year option worth $9 million.

A Quick Look at James’s NFL Career So Far
The former Florida State standout has made an impact as the Chargers selected him 17th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
In his first year alone, he became a Pro Bowler, First-Team All-Pro, and a member of the Pro Football Writers’ Association All-Rookie team.
He had his second Pro Bowl and All-Pro distinction last season, when he finished with 75 single tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, five pass defended and three force fumbles.
His 2021 performance is also a great comeback after he was ruled out of the 2020 season due to a torn meniscus.
James played only five matches in 2019 due to a stress fracture in his right leg.
