Chicago gun violence: 4 killed, 9 injured in first night of the weekend

At least 13 people have been shot in separate attacks across Chicago since Friday evening, including fatally shooting two people in their vehicles about three miles to the south and Saturday evening. Initially two additional people were killed within an hour of each other.

  • According to Chicago police, a 38-year-old man was driving west into the 500 block of West 95th Street in Washington Heights at around 10:40 p.m. Friday night when a man opened fire from the sidewalk. The driver was shot several times and was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he died.
  • About half an hour later, at around 11:10 pm, a 62-year-old man was shot dead in Englewood. Police said he was in a vehicle at a stop sign in the 800 block of West 71st Street when he was shot in the head. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
  • Early Saturday, a man was shot and killed in North Lawndale. Police said the 19-year-old was found with a bullet wound in the chest at around 5:17 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Fillmore Street, where he was pronounced dead.
  • Then, just after 6 a.m., a 28-year-old was killed and another was injured in the Roseland neighborhood. They were walking together in the 9400 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue when a man came up and shot a 28-year-old man in the arm. He died at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Police said a bullet hit the other man in the head, but he refused treatment.
  • A teenage girl and two others were injured in a non-lethal attack in a shootout at East Garfield Park at around 9 p.m. Friday. Police said a 17-year-old, a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were in the 3300 block of West Harrison Street when someone inside a black car opened fire. The teen was shot in the leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The woman had injury marks on her face and the man had bullet marks on his body. Both were taken to the same hospital in good condition.
  • A woman was shot inside a vehicle in the North River just after 5 a.m. on Saturday. Police said the 19-year-old woman was in the 100 block of West Ohio Street when she heard gunshots and felt her back hurt. Police said he was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition is stable.

At least four other people were injured, two of them critically, in a shootout in Chicago since 5 p.m. Friday, according to police. No arrests have been reported in any of the attacks.
