The former Heisman Trophy went to Carolina through a trade started by the Cleveland Browns.
In return, the Browns receive a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Mayfield has a right to be upset with the squad that made him the first overall pick in the 2018 draft.
Eventually, he helped bring stability to the team after just one win in two seasons.
He was also their quarterback when they made the playoffs and won the postseason game for the first time since 1994.
But even these achievements weren’t enough to keep his job in Cleveland.
What can hurt the most is that he was initially promised to continue as a starter in 2022.
Unfortunately, the wind went differently when Brown signed Deshaun Watson,
The former Oklahoma standout was unwanted because Cleveland already had a better option.
Yet as luck would have it, he will have a chance to make a comeback against his former team in Week 1 of the 2022 season.
However, Mayfield does not hold any grudge against his former team, as shared by WKYC’s Ben Axelrod.

Additional motivation for Mayfield to beat the Browns
in an article on Panthers official websiteMayfield said, “I’m not going to sit here and be a robot and let me tell you this isn’t what I’ve already marked on the calendar. For me, it’s about winning the game. What we’ve done on the schedule.” Also marked, I’m going to try to win.
But other than getting that win, the $10 million payout by Brown is on top of the cake.
Imagine beating the team that pays you big salaries.
If that happens, Mayfield will have the last laugh and calm whatever’s on his mind, whether he admits to them or not.
