Baltimore Orioles With the advent of the top catcher got a shot in the arm Adley Ratshman,

He has been an important part of their youth movement and helped them emerge as a surprise wild card contender in the American League.

His hitting is improving and he is helping turn the fortunes of the Orioles franchise.

Although widely known for his catch, he has a few other tricks up his sleeve as well, and he may soon be displaying them.

Orioles insider Nathan Ruiz tweeted that Reutschmann was trying out first base, a spot where he played a bit in the minors but has yet to do so with the Orioles.

Rutschman Takes First Rep

Versatility always helps in case of a player to stay in the big league.

with Trey Mancini Gone, the Orioles could give Reutsman some rep at first base at some point in the near future.

Ryan Mountcastle Getting most of the rep there, but if he needs a day off, the Orioles can stick Rutsman in there for a change, if he gets a little break from catching up when he needs to.

If he can pick up some reps at first base, the Orioles have a few options for how they want to manage the players’ workload down the stretch.

They could also serve Mountcastle as an occasional designated hitter if they wanted to give Reutsman a chance to play a little earlier.

There are a number of things they can try if Rutschmann takes some reps at first base, and it’s not like first base is foreign to him, given that he has little experience playing in minor leagues.
