At least one person was killed and 17 others injured when a car crashed into a Pennsylvania bar to support victims of a recent deadly fire, state police said.
Geisinger Hospital confirmed in a statement that they were caring for more than 15 patients, including four in critical condition.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Anthony Petrosky told reporters that state police were called to the area near the Intoxicology Department bar in Berwick on Saturday at around 6:15 p.m.
Police said a vehicle “passed through a crowd at a community event.”
Petrosky said the Troopers then received a call about a man who allegedly assaulted a woman in neighboring Neskopeck County. He said officers rushed to the scene to see a dead woman. Police said officers detained the man, whom they said was a suspect in both incidents.
Police have not identified the suspect or detailed possible charges. Petrosky said investigators are looking into whether the suspect intentionally entered the crowd.
“This investigation is very active,” police said in a statement.
